Mission

SynapseC's mission is to develop and share expertise in the use of data for the arts and culture in Quebec and Canada as a whole, and to become an international leader in the use of such data for the benefit of cultural organizations.

Vision

Synapse C pools data from cultural organizations to help them better understand the cultural practices of their audiences and, thus, adjust their business strategy.

Elevator pitch

Synapse C was named a Centre d'excellence numérique (Centre for digital excellence) by the Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation du Québec (MEIQ) from its inception in 2019. Its mission is to become the leader in AI-based solutions for the cultural ecosystem in Quebec and across the country. Synapse C strives to meet the cultural sector’s need to understand their audiences and to develop the knowledge and skill required to leverage their data and outside data available to them.

Quialu.ca recommendation algorithm. Synapse C approached Les Librairies indépendantes du Québec (Independent bookstores of Quebec) to take part in exploratory research on the development of a language recognition algorithm applied to review comments on the quialu.ca website, whose membership makes up the largest francophone book community in Quebec. Web scraping to illustrate cultural vitality. Regular and systematic scraping of Quebec’s cultural offer. Data visualization platform, mapped to demonstrate disparities in cultural offering over time, by event type and by region.
