Who are we?
Mission
To develop all aspects of the mathematics of decision making in large, complex systems be they technological, commercial or economic, and ahead of decision making, to develop the mathematics of model building as pertaining statistical analysis, simulation
Vision
To contribute to the building of collective wealth through the creation of spin off companies, consulting activities for the transferring of locally developed know how to industry, and the incorporation of this know how into software for support in decisi
Elevator pitch
GERAD’s mandate can be summed up as covering four areas: scientific development, training of highly qualified personnel, academic and industrial collaboration, and, finally, impact on the community. Partnerships with industry are critical in this regard, as industry supports training, is the main beneficiary of our work and its impact, and ultimately helps identify new avenues of research.

Description
Founded in 1979, GERAD aims to integrate artificial intelligence methods into mathematical decision-making science to improve modelling and speed up resolution algorithms; and conversely, to improve machine learning techniques with mathematical optimization methods. GERAD experts are from HEC Montréal, École Polytechnique, McGill University and Université du Québec à Montréal.
Why do business with us?
To illustrate recent or ongoing partnerships at GERAD, details of some projects are available on our website: The THALES Ship Refit Project is an example of a multi-year, multi-stakeholder collaborative research program that has undergone five renewals to date and is now diversifying into other fields of application. The IBS/AD OPT and GIRO project is the latest example of a long-term partnership between the two companies and GERAD researchers. This relationship has been a vehicle for academic development and for the companies’ recruitment, and has supported their growth from start-up status to a dominant position in their respective markets.
